Tecumseh, Michigan - Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA) has received two grants from Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) for its 2019-2020 season.
The first award is a matching-funds Capital Improvement Grant in the amount of $18,750, which will be used to offset the costs associated with repairing and replacing the theater’s 39-year-old original boiler system. During the 2017-2018 season, one of the boiler units had to be turned off permanently, leaving the theater’s heating system running at 2/3 capacity and putting even more strain on the remaining units over the past 18 months. This has resulted in some loss of the theaters ability to control the temperature and humidity levels within the building. “The Capital Improvement award from Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs will allow us to move forward in replacing the aging boiler system,” commented TCA Director Kelly Jo Gilmore. “Tecumseh Center for the Arts is committed to providing a positive performing arts experience and continue serving as the home stage for various performing arts organizations. Replacing the boiler will help us achieve these goals for our patrons and partner organizations for many years to come.”
The second award is a matching-funds Project Support Grant in the amount of $12,500, which will help produce this season’s manifestation of The Nutcracker Ballet. The TCA has been producing the ballet since 2002. Originally an annual production, it moved to a biennial production in 2013. Throughout its 15-year history various scenes, costumes and set pieces have needed to be altered, upgraded or replaced. This year’s production includes more collaboration than in previous years with an expansion of our Production Team and collaboration with The Tecumseh Players, a local acting troupe. The grant award will allow Tecumseh Center for the Arts to enhance this year’s production with the addition of scenes, new and updated costumes, set pieces, and props while inviting even more organizations to collaborate. The 15th production of the TCA Nutcracker Ballet will take place December 12, 13 and 14, 2019.
