The holiday season is upon us and Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA) has the shows to get you in the holiday spirit. As part of the Michigan Homegrown Project, the TCA hosts over 75 shows each year that share the theater stage with local artistic groups while building lasting relationships between art organizations and the theater.
December’s Michigan Homegrown Project events include: December 4: Providing musical enrichment to the Tecumseh Area, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra & Community Chorus is a non-profit organization designed to foster, promote and increase appreciation of music. This fabulous group of artists is led by Music Director & Orchestra Conductor Howard Stukey, Chorus Conductor Hannah Sparrow, and Concertmaster Mrs. Hollis Bauman. To see their complete bios and learn more about the Tecumseh Pops & Community Chorus, visit www.TecumsehPops.com. The group’s winter concert will feature the fun modern sounds of "The Polar Express," Leroy Anderson's "Christmas Festival," and "Joyful, Joyful" from Sister Act, as well as the traditional "And the Glory of the Lord" and "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel’s Messiah. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors & youth. December 9-11: Tecumseh Players presents "The Christmas Schooner, A Musical." The Christmas Schooner is based on true stories of a Michigan shipping captain living in Manistique (on the north coast of Lake Michigan) who braves the deadly winter weather to bring Christmas trees to homesick German American families in turn-of-the-century Chicago. The whole family will enjoy this heart-warming story, based on the historic Great Lakes voyages of Christmas tree ships during the late 1800's and early 1900's. Directed by Heather Harris, this musical is based on the book by John Reeger with music and lyrics by Julie Shannon. Tickets are $15 each. December 18: The TCA Big Band & VocalAires, their singing partners, believe that keeping Big Band music alive is a privilege and they are excited to share their holiday concert with you. Please help them spread holiday cheer to those in need by bringing canned goods and non-perishable food items for the Tecumseh Service Club Food Drive. Join us as we swing into the season, Big Band style! Tickets are $10 each. Tickets for all three events can be purchased through the TCA website at www.TheTCA.org or through the TCA Box Office located at 400 North Maumee Street in Tecumseh. You can also purchase tickets by calling 517.423.6617 Tuesday-Friday from noon until 5 pm. (The TCA will be closed November 24-25 in honor of Thanksgiving.) In addition to the events listed above, the TCA will also host Tecumseh Public Schools Middle School Choir on December 13, Herrick Park Elementary’s Holiday Sing on December 14, Patterson Elementary’s Holiday Sing on December 15 and Monroe Street Theater Dance Company’s Winter Showcase on December 17.
